I am delighted to introduce myself as the Home-School Tutoring Area Advisor for the Wakefield and Huddersfield area. I have worked in education for many years – as a teacher, deputy headteacher and as an education officer for a local authority Special Educational Needs Team. I have lived in this region for over 30 years and know the schools well. I tutor most days and find it incredibly rewarding to see the young people make good progress and build their confidence.

As well as the cities of Wakefield and Huddersfield, we work with students in Pontefract, Castleford and all areas of Kirklees. We work with families in private homes, schools, theatres and other organisations, so whatever your tutoring need we work hard to ensure we can meet your requirements. For some, tutoring is for a specific time and purpose, for other it is for a longer period of ongoing support. Whatever your particular circumstances, I am confident that we will be able to meet your needs. Rather than delivering a ‘one size fits all’ approach to tutoring, we pride ourselves on being a personalised service.

I have an excellent team of talented tutors who can support children and young people of all ages who are either attending school or home-educated, as well as adults wishing to continue their learning journey. Safeguarding our students is very important to us and all our Tutors have DBS Enhanced Certificates and excellent references.

Our specialist tutors also help many pupils prepare for entrance examinations for independent schools and the 11 Plus to gain places at the successful and oversubscribed grammar schools in and around our region.

We work extensively with students with special educational needs or learning difficulties and those for whom English is an additional language. An increasing number of pupils are being home educated in this region and we have a range of services available to support you in this decision– home tutors, curriculum planning and provision of resources for home learning.

Subjects offered

Our home tutors work with students from primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across West Yorkshire. We also provide personal tuition to students from the universities and to adults at work and at home. Other organisations such as theatres, arts organisations, hospitals and larger companies also use us to deliver tutoring or other educational services.

We have maths and English tutors working alongside pupils from many schools across the region, and our science tutors are also in high demand. We provide one-to-one tuition and small group tuition for primary level and secondary level students for ongoing support and in preparation for GCSEs and A levels. We also provide tutors for adult learners who wish to return to studying.

Many of our tutors are experienced in providing tutoring for the Yorkshire 11+ Exam for entry to grammar schools in the area as well as tuition for other entrance exams for independent schools.

We have some very experienced tutors for GCSE and A Level tuition in a range of subjects, including:

English language and literature
Maths (all levels) including further maths
Science including biology, physics, chemistry
Languages: French, Spanish, German, Latin, Chinese
History, geography

We have tutors who love to provide support to younger pupils who perhaps are preparing for SATs and who need someone to help and encourage them and build their confidence.

We also have specialist KS1 and Early Years tutors who can support children with their early reading skills and phonics.

We also are pleased to be able to help pupils of all ages with literacy and numeracy difficulties, dyslexia and SEN.

Our tutors are also pleased to support home-educated children in the West Yorkshire area. We can offer tutoring for small groups alongside one-to-one tuition, and our tutors offer a wide range of subjects, levels and specialisms.

Ours tutors understand that children work best in a relaxed and supportive environment and they will encourage and support their students to develop their confidence and love of learning.
