Our German home tutors are available to help any students get to grips with the German language, whether they would like private tuition for school work and exams, further or higher education, work or business, or personal interests.
German exam preparation
With private tuition in German, pupils can approach coursework and exams for GCSEs, AS Levels, A-Levels and degrees with confidence. Whether students would like specific support for speaking, listening, reading or writing German – or support with all aspects of learning the language – Home-School Tutoring’s friendly and professional tutors are happy to help.
Stand out with GCSE German
The number of students choosing to study GCSE German has been in steady decline since languages became optional in 2004. The introduction of the English Baccalaureate (Ebacc) did initially result in a rise in the number of young people choosing to study GCSE German however numbers are once again in decline.
The competition remains tough for a place at a Russell Group university, and pupils hope that achieving the Ebacc, for which they must gain a C or higher in a GCSE language subject, will help in their quest for a coveted place (especially if they go on to be one of the elite few studying A-Level German).
With so few students applying to study BA German Studies and other languages, universities also hope that a rise in students taking GCSE German and other languages will lead to more candidates for undersubscribed language degree programmes.
The confidence to learn a language
The English have a reputation for being reluctant to learn other languages; however, for many this reluctance is the result of a lack of confidence resulting from less practice and fewer opportunities to hear and speak a foreign language compared to our European counterparts.
According to a recent study, 56% of Germans are fluent in English, while fewer than one in ten Brits can speak another language. As school children in England spend fewer hours per week learning languages and have fewer opportunities to hear foreign languages in popular culture in the way that German students are able to immerse themselves in English language films, TV and music, it is easy to understand why English students find learning German and other languages more difficult than German students find learning English.
Home tuition provides students with the opportunity to engage with the German language through one-to-one dialogue and reading materials, and to practice their German language skills in a supportive and relaxed environment, without any fears about making mistakes.
Help for pupils of all ages
For the many students who would like to continue their German studies to GCSE level and beyond but are concerned that it may be more difficult to get a good grade in a GCSE language subject than in other subjects, one-to-one home tutoring is often invaluable.
Home-School Tutoring’s private tutors are also very happy to help adult learners to master German language skills for work, business, leisure or personal interests. With budget airlines flying to many destinations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, there has never been a better time to explore the diversity and beauty of German-speaking European countries.
